Phone Mic Template: How to make a box for your mini microphone
If you’re on TikTok, you know that tiny microphones are all the rage. The devices are easy enough to utilize by plugging in the receiver into your phone, turning on the microphone, and pressing record.
The provide cleaner audio than what you can typically get from your phone, especially if you’re in public or a crowded space. Plus they help if you’re standing further away from your recording device and still want to be heard at the same volume.
As a journalist, I use miniature microphones all the time when it comes to videos across social media. One day I got the idea “wouldn’t it be cute if I made a box to go around my tiny mic with my newspapers logo like how the broadcasts stations do it?” and like any creative soul, I hyperfixated on the idea until I brought it to life.
And like any social media manager in modern age, I used Canva to make my dreams become a reality.
To make my mini phone mic “flags” (flag is the professional term for the box underneath the foam piece) I started by making a cube template with the square frame. Each square is one inch by one inch placed in a plus sign shape, making the cube layout out 3 inches by 3 inches total. In the middle I added a black circle to know where to cut out a hole to insert the mic, which I made about .4 inches in height. I also added a flap to either side of the top and bottom squares to make it easier to tape/glue the box together.
From their I was able to drag in a background image or color to my choosing and then add any logo I wanted on each side and rotate the logo as needed to make sure it was facing the correct way.
For printing I recommend creating this doc on 8.5 x 11 inches file size so that its the same size as a sheet of paper. You can print it out on regular paper, but I found cardstock works best for keeping its shape.
Once you’ve cut out your mini mic box and put it together, to put it on the microphone I’ve found you can easily remove the foam on top of the mic, place the box on top of the mic so that just the recording part sticks out, and then put the foam piece bag on top and the whole thing will stay in place.
